Sustainable Campus

This project was done in collaboration with Maddalena Galloni, Paula Ikonen, Arunima Jain, Oona Oikarinen and Shreya Sood as part of a course called Systems Thinking for Sustainable Living Environment. The context of this project is Otaniemi campus area, which is located in the coastal area of Espoo city and is the home of Aalto University. The area is constantly developing and will eventually be developed into a small city in its own right (Espoo City). This course task was to take part in this development and was done in collaboration with Aalto CRE (ACRE).

Aalto CRE aims at creating collaboration and engaging by instigating new concepts to build a community of non-university users and university users. ACRE is responsible for maintaining, developing, and leasing Aalto University premises of Otaniemi and Töölö campus. The idea of ACRE collaborating with CS students for the Systems Thinking course was to create an inclusive environment for art, research and leisure services. CS students were responsible for creating proposals for socio-ecological synergies that were sustainability focused and community driven. The network of different activities will be envisioned to transform the environment and culture of the campus.
